Engine Optimization (SEO) Myths and Facts:

1: S.E.O. for Blogs:
Discussing Search Engine Optimization for Blogs-
What is Search Engine Optimization: The current terminology that
applies to Ranking or improving the Rank of a site. In other words
using various tricks, which Search Engines such as Google, Yahoo, and
Bing will utilize to search out sites, and improve your page position
when certain words or phrases are used in the Search Box.
But before you can worry about Search Engine Optimization (SEO, as it's
commonly referred to) you must first get listed with the three main
Search Engines: Google; Yahoo; Bing (formerly MSN / Live).
For a list please refer to The Blog Guy's Blogging Tips on ADDING your
Site or Blog to a Search Engine:
Google Blogging Tip # 2: How to Submit Your Blog to Google Search
Engine.
Google Blogging Tip # 22: Getting Your Blog Listed with MSN Search
Engines.
Google Blogging Tip # 39: Adding your Blog to Yahoo Search Engine.
If you actually need to first LIST your Blog or Website (Web Pages)
with the three main Search Engines, simply go to:

On the right hand sidebar column you will see:
LINKS FOR EVERYONE.
Just click on the Link for each appropriate Search Engine –
Google, Bing, or Yahoo and list your site.
Lets discuss the Myths versus Facts (true or false) of Search Engines
and how Search Engines Rank your Blog -
1) Too many Links on my Blog hurt me.
False – Links are one of the three prime ways a Search Engine
finds you and ranks you. Links play a role in SEO when multiple parties
LINK to one another. In other words, you placing a Link to someone
else's Blog helps you but the real benefit helps both of you when you
exchange Links with each having a link to each other. Your Optimization
goes up the more this occurs. That's why you need to encourage others
to Link to You and You Link to them.
2) If I pay someone they can improve my SEO on my Blog.
False – As a general rule Blogs are on the lower end of
Search Engine Results Rankings. Notice I said generally. Anyway, most
Blogs and Social Network Sites are controlled by the Blog Provider
– Google (blogspot); Wordpress; Facebook; Twitter; Myspace;
etc. This simply means there is little you can do to optimize a Blog.
However, there are some tricks, and providers such as Google are
shutting most of these down. After all these Blogs and Social Networks
are free.
3) I want better Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for my Blog so their
isn't really anything I can do?
False - You can start by adding Links.
Also add backlinks.
Use key
words often.
Add Followers to your Blog.
Add other interactive Blog
Links like Twitter to your Google Blog.
Add labels to your Blog.
Your
post should follow your Blog theme, or title (key words).
Add Google AdSense to
your Blog (note – helps with Google Search Engine only).
4) My Blog will never be ranked like a website.
True – This is true in almost every case, there are some
exceptions. But there are millions of Blogs and only a few are
successful in getting ranked well with Search Engines. Search Engines
RANK domain names first, starting with a .com (dot com) domain name,
example: blogsfollowme.com
blogsfollowme.com is a registered domain name and is a published
website through a legitimate website hosting provider service.
Google offers Website conversion of your blogspot Blog if the domain
name you want is available.
A simpler way is to obtain a domain name, get an inexpensive hosting
service provider and have your Blog 'redirect' to your website.

Google Blogging Tip # 61: HTML Code for Redirecting a Blog or Website.
5) I can change my Meta Tags within my Google Blog.
False – At one time this was true and if you still have the
older version of Blogger with Google blogspot it is still true. But
once you upgrade or you create a new Google blogspot blog now you
probably will not be able to change much if anything within the HTML
Meta Tag Codes. Most people who have tried experience an ERROR message
from Google or if they sign out and sign back in, Google has reverted
to the original HTML Default Tag Settings.
Note: The settings will vary slightly according to the Blog Template
you chose.
Important: You can change some settings within Google Blog HTML Codes
but these for the most part are not going to do much if anything at all
to improve Search Engine Optimization. Social Networks like Twitter do
not allow any setting changes. Again, if you want to play with HTML
Meta Tags, another Key Factor in getting your site page ranked
(optimized by search engines) you need a Website driven by a domain
name. This is discussed in detail including the Proper Use of Meta
Tags on Websites and Web Pages, on Part 2 SEO for Websites.
6) Adding an RSS Feed will help with my Search Engine Optimization
(Rank and Listing):
True – This is true so make sure your RSS Feed is activated
and working.
7) The key to Search Engine Optimization is HTML Meta Tags?
True – Search Engines send out robots called crawlers and
read several items within your Blog or Website. Meta Tags relay this
information to the crawlers which use a mathematical analysis to
catalog and rank your site.
8) Blog Rolls hurt me in Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
False – I don't know who comes up with this nonsense. It may
not help you but it doesn't harm you. People who claim this, and I am
giving them the benefit of the doubt, may be implying that a cluttered
site is harmful. This would be true, especially for sites that load
slowly. You need your Blog or Web Page to load quickly.
9) Having lots of Gadgets help me with Googles Search Engine:
False – Search Engines including Google for the most part
ignore Gadgets often times referred to as widgets. They are for the
user, they make your Blog or Website entertaining. Again, too many of
these can slow the loading of your site and that does hurt you when it
comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Note: Google has an alert out about third party Gadgets, some may
contain Malware. Malware is harmful to your computer.
10) Visitors to my Blog or Site are important in Site Ranking (Search
Engine Optimization):
True – The number of visitors is a key factor in page
rankings with most Search Engines including Google. The more visitors
the better. There are methods that work for getting visitors to your
site or blog. We will discuss these in another Google Tip.
